New Feature: Split the Cost of CafePress Products

Well, you’re stuck between a rock and a hard place. Again. The rock being the Talking Dog pajamas you really really want to get mom for her birthday, and the hard place being that you don’t know if you can order them.

And this is where CafePress swoops in, with the help of your family and friends.

We have a new, unique feature called Split the Cost – which may sound self-explanatory – but it’s a lot more fun than you think! For any product that costs more than $35.00 on our site, you’ll see this little gift icon on the page:

 split the cost feature

Once you click on it, another page will pop up for you to fill out the details of why having these pajamas are dire to your existence:

  split the cost feature

Simply reach out to friends or family via e-mail (Gmail and Yahoo) or Facebook, asking them to help contribute. You can invite as many people as you’d like and split the cost evenly between everyone included, or suggest specific amounts. On the bottom of the window, feel free to include the name of the recipient, select an occasion and enter a personal message to everyone sharing the gift. And once everyone you invite contributes, you’ll receive a gift code to redeem for your “purchase!”

This feature is perfect for sharing costs with your siblings for mom and dad’s anniversary, getting your friend an awesome custom iPad case for their birthday, or getting the hubby a funny sweatshirt from the kids “just because.”

With your awesome new pajamas on, you can thank each of your friends who helped you get warm and comfy during the cold nights that will ensue. A sleepover party may be in order. Then everyone will have to get their own PJs.

New Product: Dry-Fit for the Heat Wave.

dry-fit t-shirtThe heat is on this summer, as I’m sure many of you in the Midwest and on the East Coast are experiencing to a tee right now. Personally, if I were experiencing that heat right now, I’d be hogging the air conditioning between bouts of sticking my face in the freezer.  I was never that good at sharing…and heat only supports that quality in me.

Well, we can’t change the heat wave for you, but we have an alternative – enter CafePress’s new Performance Dry T-Shirts. Made for sports and fitness performance, these wouldn’t be such a bad idea for a hot, sweaty day either, with their ability to wick moisture away from your body, keeping you cool and comfortable while you’re busy being active. Voila! Almost as easy as running a marathon. (tee hee…)

Whether you’re a runner who cringes at the idea of cotton, a cross-fit aficionado, or have plans for a killer camping trip, don a dry-fit t-shirt in both men’s and women’s styles and a variety of colors that conveys just who you are and what you love. Because, after all, what’s better than showing off your passions on your sleeves – especially while you’re right in the thick of enjoying them.

A Moment in History: Osama bin Laden – Your Thoughts

osama t-shirt9-11 t-shirtmilitary t-shirtosama tote bagobama got osama t-shirt

News broke late Sunday night announcing the death of Osama bin Laden. President Obama spoke from the White House, explaining the U.S. military raid on a compound in Pakistan where Bin Laden was hiding, and the subsequent assault that ended in his death.

As you may know, CafePress.com users comprise a robust community of diverse people who can create and upload their own product designs. The community expresses themselves in many ways – oftentimes focused on current events, news or pop culture trends – making the CafePress.com Marketplace a Cultural Barometer for the latest on what’s happening in the world.

The CafePress community quickly began voicing their thoughts and feelings about Osama bin Laden on t-shirts and other products minutes after reports of his death surfaced. So far, overall sentiment of Osama related designs centers on the following themes:

1. Celebration: For many, it feels like justice has been served, and the military accomplished their mission.
2. Commemorative: Remembering the 9/11 attacks and tributes to those affected.
3. A moment for the history books: Yesterday will go down as a milestone in U.S. history.
4. Patriotism: Many designs supporting the military. We’re seeing designs that are showing their pride for our friends and family bravely fighting for the U.S.
5. Hats off to the President: Designs are showing that we’re proud of our president and many are saying this cements President Obama’s chances of being re-elected in 2012.

How do you feel about this news? Share your thoughts with us below:

Cultural Barometer Report Weekly Hotlist: Easter, All My Children & More

Once the most widely-recorded TV show in America, ABC has sadly pulled the plug on All My Children after 41 years. Loyal soap opera fans from Pine Valley to Manhattan are flocking to CafePress to purchase Erica Kane-themed gifts and other sentimental reminders.

Easter-themed products are also hopping, with parents creating adorable baskets for the April 24th holiday. There’s going to be a lot of smiles come Sunday morning (at about 6:00 a.m., yawn).

No surprise, the Japan relief effort is still on people’s minds and opening their hearts (and pockets) to help. As the number of casualties and suffers continue to rise, so does the sales of merchandise showing support.Sad Panda toddler t-shirtSnoopy Easter t-shirtErica Kane magnet

CafePress New Product Alert: Shot Glasses

Star Wars shot glass

Not actual size of shot glass. Although that would be cool if it were.

We like your CafePress shopping experience to be like your favorite adult beverage: no bite, with a smooth finish. And now, we may be able to help you with that when it comes to your drinks too.

Introducing one of CafePress’s newest product additions – shot glasses! You can now find a plethora of cool designs to add a little flair to your next party.

Long gone are the days of traveling on vacations collecting clear shot glasses as your trip souvenir. Although hokey can be awesome (who doesn’t love a cactus-shaped shot glass?), sipping your favorite aperitif from one that you designed yourself has an added element of satisfaction to enjoy along with your drink. Gift stores around the nation may get jealous.

And with wedding season almost here, think of the great bachelor and bachelorette parties that will benefit from personalized shot glasses. They’ll certainly get some good attention (and maybe a free drink or two?), and could make some great party favors.

Our shot glasses are made of premium ceramic and come in two different colors, all white and white with a black interior for those mystery drinks.

So take a load off this weekend and enjoy responsibly. We’ll hold you to it.

Cultural Barometer Weekly Hotlist: General Hospital and More

Hot off the press, we’re whetting your appetite with the coolest designs trending this week.

It’s pretty amazing to see how people come together to aid others in their times of need. Our community continues to support Japan relief with inspiring designs, which speaks volumes about lending a helping hand for those who cannot reach out themselves.

As Autism awareness month continues, we’ve seen and heard an outpouring of education and advocacy through true stories from some of our own shopkeepers – take a look at their unique stories and their shops, which has some amazing designs in them.

We have a soft spot for geeks-turned-mafia men. And so do a lot of CafePressers – this week the beloved kooky character of Damian Spinelli of General Hospital fame got a lot of attention. A Voice for Autism

Autism t-shirtFor those of you with a knack for creativity and strong passions – April is a prime example of showing how CafePress shopkeepers use their designs not only as a form of self-expression, but as a way to acknowledge, educate and support these passions. April is Autism Awareness month, and CafePress has partnered with nonprofit organization Autism Speaks and some of our talented shopkeepers to support this cause.

During the entire month of April, CafePress will be donating a portion of all autism-related sales* to Autism Speaks, the nation’s largest science and advocacy organization for autism. Additionally, four of our shopkeepers shared their autism stories with us, exploring how autism goes deeper than just a cause to support for some, but also a way of life.

It’s rewarding to see how passionate our community of shopkeepers is about what they believe in and how their designs bring another level of awareness to their causes. Be sure to explore their stories and their shops, as well as CafePress’s autism awareness designs to learn more about autism and how you can help spread the word and give those with a voice an audience to be heard.

* An amount equal to 10% of the final purchase price for all products tagged with “autism” and sold through CafePress.com Marketplace during April 1, 2011 through April 30, 2011 will be donated to Autism Speaks (http://www.autismspeaks.org/).

Wishlists for the CafePress Things You <3

You know that feeling when you see something for the first time and let out a little gasp of glee, and whisper to yourself, “I really really want that!” If you’re like me, you end up sighing in acknowledgment of your low funds and quickly change the screen, then go back to eating your rice and beans while wearing your last pair of clean socks. But now I (and all of you) can create wish lists of those CafePress items that give you such delight, AND mark your favorites, all on our site!

Introducing CafePress Lists. Here’s my step-by-step process on how to use, create, and share with your friends, families, and rich benefactors who want to buy you gifts:

1. You find yourself surfing the CafePress site and see a particular item you really like. In my case, it is the very awesome Pink Swirly Skull Heart T-Shirt. I can either add to my favorites or add to a list here:

CafePress Lists

2. Sign into your CafePress account, and once you’ve done so, a pop-up window allows you to create a new list, which you can then name, describe and add notes to about the product you wish to add. Click “Create New List” and you’re set:

CafePress Lists

3. Once your new list is created, you can go directly to it or create a new one. This is perfect for keeping track of special occasions, like Christmas and birthdays, or for fun things you like! You can also share and talk about your list with family and friends.

CafePress Lists

At any time you can add to or edit your lists, or buy something right from it as well, just sign into your CafePress account, and you can access your lists in the top right corner.

And there you have it! Tracking your favorites has never been so easy. So get out there and start listing. Hope you’ve been reading this, Mom.
