Ambassador Clooney, Your Stretch Limo is Here…
With all of the political scandals going around – from Mark Sanford and Blago to Elliot Spitzer and John Edwards – it’s refreshing to hear actor George Clooney’s response to running for public office.
An advocate of many social goods (most notably the plight of the African nations), he’s up-front about his chances of ever winning a post and easily admits that he hasn’t led the right sort of life to pass public scrutiny. In fact, jokingly, he suggested his campaign slogan would be, “I drank the bong water.”
Wouldn’t if be nice if more fallen politicians would just admit when they do stumble morally, and let us all try to move on? It would be much better than the deny, deny, deny — like we’re all so oblivious. After all, this is 2011 and there’s this thing called the Internet. The days of political life behind closed-doors is way past. Just a thought. But is that what politics is all about?

In the movies of the past they had the hero concept, but then with the likes of say, Clint Eastwood, the anti-hero concept was introduced (the bad guy who does good things.) Perhaps we’re ready now for the politician/anti-politician. George Cloney could be our first anti-politician. Or, has the likes of say, a “Kaddafy,” already playing that role? -food for thought.
Funny you are bringing this up. I am half Cuban half Puertorican. I seem to be struggling with the Fidel and Raul Castro (political leaders of Cuba)issue. As most people know, some 50 years ago Fidel came off the mountains to save the people from Bautista the tyrant.
Fidel’s definition of saving the people is similar to Hitler’s way of segregating the people, stealing their personal property. Including homes and the ability to speak freely. Not to mention, if you happen to carry the HIV virus, Fidel will move you to your personal side of the island where you cannot contact anyone ever again.
Luckily for Cuban’s, there was Miami, just 90 miles away. I can’t even begin to imagine what would have happened in Cuba if those who opposed Fidel had no where else to go. Can you say… gas chambers.
There are still political prisoners in Cuba who’s only crime was saying… Fidel sucks!
Feel free to check out my shirts. They reflect my feelings in regard to this political tyrant.
