No socks (but yes, other “near-perfect” gear).
While listening to a talk radio show recently, their “on-air personalities” (no comment) discussed baseball’s near-perfect game controversy surrounding umpire Jim Joyce. The show’s host mentioned that people were so steaming mad, that at CafePress you could buy anti-Joyce designs on “socks and T-shirts and stuff.”
Well, while we don’t sell socks (yet?), it is true that our community is up-in-arms about the hullabaloo too… and is creating near-perfect game designs to show their wrath.
In case you haven’t heard, the Detroit Tiger’s Armando Galarraga retired the first 26 batters in a game last week. He only needed one more measly out for a “perfect game.” Unfortunately, a rather-routine groundball resulted in the pitcher covering first base and the runner was erroneously called safe. It would have been only the 21st perfect game in modern baseball history.
TV reviews clearly show that the runner was out. Blown call. No perfect game. Ouch. Sorry Jim, I guess it’s true – no one is perfect? Including the barefooted hosts of local talk radio shows.
